Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old vice president at Bank of America, was killed in a random stabbing attack in Times Square on Monday afternoon. A 68-year-old man was also wounded in the same incident.
The Attack
The assault took place near West 41st Street and Seventh Avenue at about 4:24 pm. Police said a woman carrying two knives in a Target bag approached the victims and stabbed them within a span of twenty seconds. The victim, Piacenti, was taken to Bellevue Hospital where she later died. The male victim was hospitalised in stable condition.
Police Response
Officers identified the attacker as Pamela Cisneros, a 49-year-old resident of Queens. Confronted several blocks away, officers spent roughly four minutes trying to persuade her to drop the knives. When she refused, stating "I'm not dropping anything. I would rather kill both of you", officers deployed a Taser, which failed to stop her. Two officers then opened fire as she advanced, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
"We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague," a spokesperson for Bank of America told EuroHerald. "She was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to her family and all of her loved ones."
Jessica Tisch, the NYPD Commissioner, described the scene as "an extraordinarily dangerous situation unfolding in the heart of Times Square, the crossroads of the world". She added that officers acted according to their training in a rapidly evolving threat with many innocent people nearby.

The incident prompted a swift response from city officials. Mayor Zohran Mamdani thanked the officers, saying they "stepped in and prevented a horrific attack from becoming even worse". He highlighted the daily dedication of police officers to keep the city safe.
